Dear Mirror is equally about Aria's young obsession with broken mirrors as it is about growing up feeling broken. When Aria was a teen, she didn't believe in superstition and broke a small mirror because she wanted to make art from it. Aria found it increadibly hard to form her own identity as she constantly had to fight against how her family believed she was vs how she really was and wished to be. The broken mirror became cathartic to her as it represented how she felt inside whether as a perfect mirror didn't show how an accurate depiction of how she felt. This concept spins the classic mirror metaphore on its head. Are we really what we see in the mirror or could we be shown our true selves if we broke the mirror?
