The Side Stepz Experiment .jpg

The Side Stepz Experiment is a different online exhibition experience that makes it easy to explore in a regular digital space. Some people might find they get light headed in a VR space, so this online gallery space provides a different online experience that some people may prefer.

If you are interested in having an exhibition in this digital gallery experiment then please email the curator at virtuoso9gallery@gmail.com or send a dm to our instagtam page.

Self Hood

Aria Joshes

"If we allow or encourage ourselves to be open to the fact that we are founded on lack (our flesh is the flesh of the world, continually defined and experienced in relation to everyone around us) rather than attempting to veil this fact by projecting our fear outward into the field of the other, we can indeed, reorganise the way we experience subjectivity.”—Cinematic Self and the Televisual Body, Self Image, Amelia Jones.

Self refers to identity and persona, while hood refers to the autonomous word personhood and the word neighbourhood. This exhibition is about identity real and invented by pop culture and media influences. It is a collective imagined identity. The premise of this exhibition is about labels, tropes, alter egos, stage personas by pop stars, film directors and the commodified self can be both empowering and limiting. It questions how these forms of identity can help an individual form their identity or does it lead to escapism of the authentic self, making self acceptance even harder to achieve.
